absolutely bad to the bone - This album is on of the few that stays in constant rotation in my collection, I am primarily a bluegrass fan, but this album rocks, especially Myron Dove s bass lines. check out false hearted lover, ruben s train, almost as good as seeing Tony live....

Great Live Furtado - I ve never had the opportunity to hear Tony live, but this recording is the next best thing. While I don t think it s as good as the really strong and focused studio version AMERICAN GYPSY, it has plenty of surprises, interesting twists, good song selection, tight playing and extended jamming. What I like, Myron Dove s strong bass. Paul McCandless signature horn sound, weaving, sweeping and leading the group in a jazzy direction. Of course Tony s slide (acoustic and electric), although his vocal sound is weaker than on his studio recordings. Especially great is the final track, Waiting For Guiteau, with Tony on banjo and a slightly differnt line up.This guy and this music is mature yet youthful, funky yet traditional, great yet not jaded with stardom....

There s a lot going on here - That s right. There is a lot of music going on in this album. This is a collection of live songs done by Tony s group. The playing is very solid. Guitar work is superb, the keyboards sound great too when thrown in.The choice of songs is really diverse - maybe a little too diverse as it almost seems all over the board. The music combines all kinds of genre s thrown together. So there s some brilliant folk style guitar ala Leo Kottke, there s some rock n roll, some bluesy-guitar, and then there s even a touch of what sounds like smooth jazz.I have the impression that this CD will appeal most likely to adult listeners who like to go to their local coffee house and hear live good music.
